Licensing

Both Virginia and Maryland now require special licensing for companies and employees engaged in the electronic security industry. Employees of security guard companies, investigative businesses, alarm companies, access control and surveillance systems companies or any electrical contractor working on any security system must be licensed. This means that each and every person employed by one of these companies and having access to client files must pass a background check in both jurisdictions. Once approved, the company is issued a special security license that must be renewed annually. Every employee must go through an extensive background investigation and attend training classes before being licensed. Licensed individuals are issued a Security ID card they are required to carry at all times.

We believe regulation of our industry is good for everyone. It helps us to find better employees and serves to protect your interests. If you see us on the job, please feel free to ask for an ID. You can check on companies licensed in Virginia on the Internet at: HTTP://PS.DCJS.STATE.VA.US or in Maryland by dialing: (410) 799-0191.
